Math Team Scores!

On Saturday, March 2, 2013, the Hackley School Math Team representatives went to Horace Mann for an annual HoMMaC (Horace Mann Mathematics Competition) from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. There were 6 participants from Hackley and approximately 39 students in total (Horace Mann students as well as other independent school students).
 
On Saturday, March 2, 2013, the Hackley School Math Team representatives went to Horace Mann for an annual HoMMaC (Horace Mann Mathematics Competition) from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. There were 6 participants from Hackley and approximately 39 students in total (Horace Mann students as well as other independent school students).

The HoMMaC competition had three components: A Team Relay, A Team Average Score and an Individual Round.

The Team Relay and the Team Average score competitions took place in the afternoon and lasted approximately an hour and half.

The Individual Round was 2 hours and 15 minutes equally divided into Geometry, Combinatorics and Number Theory categories with 5 questions per category.

The six students from Hackley were Erik Bostrom, Lissa Villani, James Spann, Phil Brooks, Henry Brooks and Ben Spar. Of two teams of 4 students representing Hackley, the team made up of Ben Spar, Phil Brooks, Henry Brooks, and Lissa Villani finished 1st out 9 teams in the Team Relay Round and 2nd in the Team Average Score competitions. In addition, out of 39 students, Ben Spar finished tied for 1st place and Phil Brooks finished 3rd (second place with the tie). What an exciting day for the Hackley math team!
