Athletes of the Week – Week of Oct. 2

Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.

Cross Country: Caitlin Morrow ’27
Caitlin had a great race that led to a team win at the Ivy No. 2 competition at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. She placed 6th overall and clocked in with a 17:33 on the 2.5-mile course. This result is Caitlin’s second-fastest time on the course. We look forward to Caitlin’s next race as part of a very strong Girls’ Cross Country team.

Cross Country: Rafael Castro ’25
Rafael rocked the back hills at Van Cortlandt Park at the Ivy No. 2 race. Not only was he the fastest runner on the course, but the second-place finisher was 20 seconds behind him. His time of 13:47 makes Rafael the fifth-fastest Hackley runner of all time on the 2.5-mile course. This time is one minute faster than Rafael’s time last year and is the result of hard work and commitment over the summer.

Field Hockey: Cydnee Copeland ’24
Cydnee has been a stalwart on the defensive end of the field. She has been an integral part of every game and is dominant in leading the defense and keeping the ball out of the goal!

Football: Ike Shaw ’24
Ike has been a dominant force on the defensive side of the ball for the Hornets. He currently leads the team in interceptions with four in three games this season. In addition to his pass defense (three passes defended this past week) he forced a fumble last weekend that would have resulted in a touchdown for Hackley’s opponents. Ike has been instrumental in the team’s early success.

Girls’ Varsity Tennis: Remi Myers ’24 and Riya Monday ’27
This dynamic duo doubles team has been absolutely dominating so far this season. The two of them have combined smart play, great communication, viscous forehands, strong serving and aggressive volleys to start the season undefeated! Congrats to Remi and Riya!
