Athletes of the Week - Week of May 29
Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.
Boys’ Golf: Jake Hendelman ’24
Jake has continued his success on the course. In the last match of the season, he shot medalist 36 and then shot a 73 at the NYSAIS Championship to place him in the top 5. His performance earned him a spot at the Federation Championships at Bethpage Black on June 10. Jake is the first Hackley golfer in recent memory to go undefeated in the league in the No. 1 position for the entire season.
Boys’ Lacrosse: Jackson Fauber ’25
Jackson scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the Hornets to a 9-8 NYSAIS Championship last week against Poly 9-8.
Softball: Elle Karger ’26
Elle had an amazing day in the NYSAIS Championship, going 2 for 3 at the plate as one of two batters that had hits against a very good Poly Prep team. She has been beyond stellar all year for the Hornets.
Girls’ Lacrosse Defense
The defensive unit of the Girls’ Lacrosse team inspired all who attended the games. The team won their fourth consecutive NYSAIS title (there was no championship in 2020-2021 due to COVID), with the Hornets allowing just 9 goals to the Wildcats. This after giving up only 20 goals to Rye Country Day in the regular season—a monumental feat!
