Athletes of the Week – Week of Sept. 18

Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.

Field Hockey: Lulu Bednar ’24
Lulu is an integral player on both offense and defense, never coming off the field. She scored an assist in the Hornets’ first win of the season and is consistently marking the best player on the field, recently shutting down Fieldston’s best player. Lulu has been a leader both on and off the field.

Football: Matt Kearns ’24
Matt was vital to the team’s victory against a very big St. Dominic’s team from Long Island. Matt had the only touchdown in the game, as well as the game-saving interception. Additionally, Matt had 10 tackles and a 60-yard punt yards per punt return. On the day, he had 11 rushes for 60 yards.

Girls’ Tennis: Asahi Goods ’24
Asahi had a huge match on Wednesday going up against Poly Prep. In a close one, she gutted out a victory in three sets, helping her team pull off a 3-2 win over Poly. Her ground strokes were incredibly strong as she controlled points and moved her opponent all around the court. Even more impressive was the mental game and competitive edge she displayed, as her focus, intensity and level of play only improved as the points got bigger. Congratulations to Asahi!

Girls’ Soccer: Zion Bennett ’26
The center defender had her first Hackley goal against a very good Fieldston team. Zion is an integral part of the Hornets soccer team.
