School Life

Environmentalism

From the gardening, composting and recycling efforts of our youngest students to ecology studies and LEED-certified buildings, the Hackley program is deeply committed to preserving and learning in green spaces.
Sustainability
From student-led initiatives to campus building design, the Hackley community shares a commitment to sustainability.

Hackley Forest
On Hackley’s expansive, wooded 285-acre campus, students have diverse opportunities to connect with nature.

Lower School Garden Learning Space
Hackley’s youngest students learn about sustainability, composting, science and nutrition as they dig in the dirt! The Lower School garden puts students in the center of the endeavor: planting, tending and harvesting. It supports small group work and high engagement, and encourages collaborations with art, music, writing, and even mindfulness. Students are proud to bring home the fruits (or more accurately, vegetables!) of their labors.
