When a number of students are coming from a particular area outside normal public school busing routes, Hackley will try to work with families to set up appropriate group transportation.
Some families deliver and pick up their children at school daily -- by choice or in absence of other alternatives. We're happy to help new families meet other families who live near their homes to facilitate carpooling.
All school buses arrive at Hackley between 7:40 and 8:00 a.m., in time for the start of the school day. Buses return to Hackley in time for each of two dismissal times -- 2:45 and 4:30. The time your child will be picked up in the morning or dropped off in the afternoon is determined by the relevant bus company.
Families considering Hackley are encouraged to check with their local school districts regarding the district's policy on busing to private or independent schools. Those towns and villages within a 15-mile radius of Hackley School that regularly provide busing to public school students are required to provide busing to Hackley as well.
If you would like further information about public school district transportation, or about Hackley's buses to the Bronx and Yonkers, please feel free to contact Jen Moroney in the Associate Head of School's Office (firstname.lastname@example.org or 914-366-2619).
Hackley runs daily transportation to and from Manhattan’s East and West Side, including afternoon service for students staying after school for extracurricular activities. For more information, contact Peter Sawkins, Director of Auxiliary Programs, at email@example.com or (914) 366-2675.
Hackley provides morning and afternoon shuttle service to and from the Tarrytown Metro North train station. The service utilizes Hackley owned vehicles and drivers.
Here is an overview of the service plan.
Morning service: o There is one morning pick-up at 7:45 AM – Both north and south bound trains stop at Tarrytown at 7:41 AM o The driver has a cell phone and list of riders. Parents are required to give notification to the driver via text message if a student is not coming to school that day or getting to school via other means. o The driver has a group text function to notify students if the bus is late for any reason – such as traffic, an accident or road closure. o Students are dropped at Hackley's Saperstein Arch at roughly 7:55 AM
Afternoon service: o Afternoon return service to the station leaves Hackley at 3:10 PM and 4:45 PM (similar to our public bus service) o The bus leaves Saperstein Arch at the noted time. o Students are dropped off at the same location at the train station they were picked up from.
In the rare cases where a mini-bus or the mini-van are not available, students will default to taxi service protocol used previously. There is no charge for the use of the shuttle service.
Hackley will again be providing private contract bus transportation to and from Hackley from Manhattan for the 2018-19 school year.
ISN'T HACKLEY PRETTY FAR FROM NYC?
Hackley is only 23 miles from East or West 96th Street, and when travelling opposite rush hour traffic, the trip take a little over 30 minutes - quicker than many trips across town!
Parents can take the train up (we're one mile from the Tarrytown station, which is a regular express stop on Metro North) or enjoy a short drive to see athletic competitions, plays, concerts, and exhibitions on our beautiful 285-acre campus.
Our daily buses, which include separate East and West Side morning service, also allow a ride home for students staying after school for sports practices, drama rehearsals and other extracurricular activities - even those that run until 5:45!
Feel free to call or email Peter Sawkins, Director of Auxiliary Programs, for further information about transportation from Manhattan. firstname.lastname@example.org or (914) 366-2675.
