Middle School Years

Hudson Scholars recruits fifth grade students and their families from the Washington Irving School community who qualify for free or reduced lunch. Upon reviewing student applications, approximately 16 students are invited to join the new cohort and begin their journey as Hudson Scholars.

Summer Enrichment

Our summer program brings together a team of dedicated teachers and Upper School mentors to provide academic instruction and foster the development of character, leadership and social/emotional skills. The full school day includes classes in English, math, science, social studies, drama, art and computer science. In addition to academics, our program emphasizes leadership skills and such values as hard work, integrity, empathy, resilience and community. Special events, such as field trips, family days, college introductions, parent gatherings and overnight campouts, enhance the summer experience.

School Year Programming
During the school year, Hudson Scholars offers ongoing academic support and continued community building through weekly tutoring sessions. In addition, we host one Saturday reunion each month where we bring our Scholars and mentors together for a day of learning and fun. Our priority over the course of the school year is to provide academic support and enrichment, and to continue strengthening our relationships and cultivating a sense of community.
