Science Learning for this Moment

Dr Lisa Purcell works at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and is leading the trials for sarilumab (Kevzara), which Regeneron is hoping will help COVID patients who have been suffering from ‘cytokine storms’ where the immune system attacks the lungs and other organs in the body. Dr. Purcell was a scientist in Infectious Disease for a number of years. She, along with her team developed therapies for pathogens using Regeneron’s novel technologies to translate ‘science to medicine'. She now works to test those therapies in the clinic. Dr. Purcell is actively involved in Regeneron’s science education efforts including the Regeneron Science Talent Search, research mentorship efforts, the International and Westchester Science and Engineering Fair and STEM teacher programs. She also develops the science curriculum for the High School Research Mentorship and STEM Teacher Fellowship and has mentored many students from all of Regeneron’s science education programs.

Dr Sandra Kesh is an infectious disease doctor with West Med Medical group in Purchase, NY. Dr Kesh is working on the front lines of the pandemic. Dr. Kesh is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases. She is board certified in both internal medicine and infectious diseases. Dr. Kesh is affiliated with White Plains Hospital and Greenwich Hospital, and maintains an academic appointment as instructor of clinical medicine at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
