Boys' Varsity Soccer keeps unbeaten streak alive

The Boys' Varsity Soccer Team extended its early season win streak to four with a 2-1 victory over league rival Collegiate on Wednesday afternoon.

Collegiate arguably was the better team on the day, but two first-half goals and a stingy Hornets defensive line helped secure the win. Senior Fritz Lauerwald got the Hornets on the board at 6:16 of the first half on a long, direct free kick that picked the top right corner over the outstretched Collegiate goalie. While Collegiate was winning the possession game—and was the more energetic team—Hackley scored a second goal with just four minutes remaining in the half. Senior Dan Paridis got on the end of a perfect through-ball from Aidan Aybar '23, and punched it just inside the far post for a 2-0 lead at the half.

Collegiate continued to press in the second half and were ultimately rewarded with a goal with just seven minutes remaining. With only a one-goal cushion, Hackley hunkered down and kept Collegiate at bay the last few moments of the game.

The win keeps the Hornets at the top of the Ivy League table, and the only undefeated team remaining. Next up is another pesky and competitive league opponent in Poly Prep, Friday at 7 p.m. on historic Pickert Field.
