Lower School Technology Teacher
The Lower School Technology Teacher is responsible for teaching Kindergarten through 4th grade students to become proficient and comfortable with utilizing age appropriate technological tools. In addition, the position involves collaboration with faculty across the Lower School to facilitate the use of technology to complement curricula, promote interdisciplinary studies and as a means of expression, presentation, communication, and research.
Reporting Structure
The Lower School Technology Teacher reports to the Lower School Director and the K-12 Computer Science Department Chair.
Specific Responsibilities
- Design and implement an innovative, interactive, engaging, and evolving K-4 technology curriculum with strong focus on computational thinking, programming logic, digital fluency and citizenship
- Teach a variety of technological skills while utilizing educational technology platforms, with proficiency in MacOS
- Employ effective and differentiated teaching strategies and assessments to support diverse levels of technical ability and skill sets
- Demonstrate the initiative to work, plan and partner with Lower School colleagues to support interdisciplinary use of technology in meaningful and authentic ways
- Create an inclusive and engaging classroom environment while monitoring and maintaining organization of the computer lab and associated technologies
- Maintain active, positive, and professional participation in faculty meetings and effective, eager engagement with students, families, colleagues, and administration
- Participate and support the growth of the Computer Science Department’s K-12 instructional program
- Develop, support and coordinate programs including, but not limited to:
- pairing of Lower School students with Middle/Upper School Computer Science students
- execution of Lower School STEM Night in conjunction with Math and Science Departments
- coordination of the Lower School Digital Citizenship program with Social Emotional Learning program, in conjunction with the Lower School Psychologist,
- Participate in ongoing professional development related to emerging technologies, curriculum design, and pedagogies relevant to instructional technology and the impact current trends have on Lower School students
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- At least five years’ experience in education, ideally at the elementary level, as well as a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a STEM-related field and a successful track record of designing and implementing technology curricula
- Experience utilizing project-based learning and design thinking
- Ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as part of team
- Demonstrative, instinctive aptitude, and broad knowledge of computer science education, including age appropriate programming languages, curricula, computer functionality, and educational technology tools including, but not limited to: Schoology, Scratch, LEGO Robotics, Seesaw, Google Suite, Canva, Code.org, Kodable, Blockly, 3D printing, CAD
- Strong communication (written and oral), organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Positivity, energy and a deep commitment to collaborating with others
- A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion within a school community
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this 10-month faculty position is $71,850-$109,566, with experience informing a base salary as published in Hackley’s faculty salary stage scale.
