Athletes of the Week – Week of April 8

Every week, the Athletics department highlights some exceptional Hackley Hornets who are helping to spur on their teams.

Boys’ Tennis: David Linnett ’24
 
David has started the season in an impressive fashion, going 2-0 in league play in the No. 1 singles position on the team — his play has been tremendous.

Girls’ Lacrosse: Daanya Mir ’24
Daanya has seven goals and five assists thus far this season for the lacrosse team. She has also been instrumental in the re-defend for the Hornets.

Boys’ Lacrosse: Jackson Fauber ’25
Jackson had two goals and two assists in a 7-6 win over Rye Country Day last week. Jackson has been instrumental in the early success of the team this season.
 
Softball: Brigid Doherty ’27
Brigid has started the season in an impressive fashion, both offensively and defensively. In her first game of the season, she went 4-4 with four RBIs. She currently leads the team in batting average with a .571 and is 7-9 at the plate in two games. Defensively, she is catching for the team and has done an incredible job thus far for the Hornets.
 
Boys’ Golf: Jerry G. ’28 
Jerry is steadily moving up the ladder on the boys’ golf team. Starting at the 5 position, he is now at the 2 position after shooting three rounds of 39 in difficult conditions. Jerry looks to be vital to the success of the program as an eighth grader this season. 
 
Track & Field: Maggie Yalmokas ’25 
Maggie had a great day at the Poly Prep relays in the team’s first meet of the year. She finished second in the discus throw with a personal best of 68'10". Maggie also won the shot put competition, throwing 25'4".
 
Track & Field: Rafael Castro ’25
Rafael had a strong week for the Hackley track team. At the Poly Prep relays, Rafael won the mile race in a time of 4:41. He also anchored the boys’ 4x800m relay to a strong showing.
